2009 Report

2009

The Rewardaward New Victoria Beach Cricket Competition enjoyed brilliant sunshine on the beach at Ainsdale on Sunday. Last years competitors New Victoria, Ainsdale and Earlestown were joined by Norcross from Blackpool and eight six-a-side games were played in all.
Defending champions Ainsdale opened with a 19 run win over New Victoria and they were to remain unbeaten throughout the group stage. Norcross began gingerly but they qualified for the final with wins over New Victoria and Earlestown. The hosts did not win any of their group games but beat Earlestown in a play-off to decided 3rd place.
In the final Ainsdale posted 247 for the loss of only two wickets. Norcross were disadvantaged by losing early wickets but recovered and at one stage were closing on the Ainsdale total. In the closing stages Ainsdale took further wickets to restrict Norcross to 224.
The trophy and medals were presented at the Sands Pub to the winners and runners up. Thanks go the Rewardward, I.D.Banners,Pontins, the Sands Pub and Sefton Coast and Countryside Service for their assistance. All involved thought that the competition is well worth repeating next year.
