New Victoria CC Beach Cricket Rules

1. Rules of the game

1.1. There will be 6 players in a Beach Cricket team.

1.2. There will be six overs per team. Each game will be one innings per team.

1.3. All six members of the fielding side will bowl one over.

1.4. The six members of the batting side will bat in pairs, batting for two overs per pair.

1.5. If a batsman is out, he will swap ends with the non-striker and five runs will be deducted from the batting team's score. However, if the batsman has been caught out by a one-handed catch from the fielding side, seven runs will be deducted from the batting team's score.

1.6. Bowling must be over arm at all times - no underarm bowling is allowed at any time.

1.7. The batsman facing the first ball of the second over in each paring cannot be the same as the batsman facing the last ball of the first over. This may require batsmen to swap ends between overs.

2. Scoring methods

2.1. Runs are scored by both batsman running successfully between the wickets or by hitting the ball over the boundary.

2.2. Four runs are scored if the ball crosses any boundary, having first been in contact with the sand within the boundary.

2.3. Six runs are scored if the ball crosses the boundary on the full.

2.4. Runs can only be scored by the batsman hitting the ball or through Extras (as set out below).

3. Extras

3.1. Wides.
3.1.1. A ball will be considered a wide if, delivered on either side of the stumps, it is not within the batsman's reasonable reach as decided by the umpire. These standards should be applied closely to discourage deliberate wide bowling.

3.1.2. A penalty of one run is added to the batting team's total when a wide is called. An extra ball will be bowled for each wide ball. This penalty shall stand in addition to any other runs scored or awarded from the wide ball (i.e. byes run).

3.2. No balls
3.2.1. A no ball will be called if the bowler oversteps the popping crease with his front foot

3.2.2. A no ball will be called if the ball is bowled above waist height without bouncing (a "full toss").

3.2.3. A no ball will be called if the ball is bowled under arm.

3.2.4. A no ball will be called if the wicket keeper receives the ball in front of the line of the batsman's stumps.

3.2.5. A penalty of one run will be added to the batting team's total when a no ball is called. An extra ball will be bowled for each no ball called. This penalty shall stand in addition to any other runs scored.

3.3. Leg byes. Leg byes can be run and added to the batting team's total (as long as a legitimate shot has been played).
